Tsar’s Village or Tsarskoye Selo is one of the outstanding imperial summer residences located close to St. Petersburg in Pushkin town. Catherine Palace with its Amber Room and the adjoining Catherine Park are the gems of Tsarskoe Selo. The palace got its name after its first owner – Catherine I, wife of Peter the Great. Its majestic design was created by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli in the 1750s. Amber Room is the real must-see; it is called “the 8 th miracle of the world”. Still a lot of legends and mysteries are ascribed to it. Amber panels of the 18 th century which were the present from Prussian king Friedrich-Wilhelm I to Peter the Great, disappeared during the WWII and the wonderful room was reconstructed anew by 2003. The Catherine Park is the combination of peaceful regular and landscape garden areas, ponds as well as the smaller exquisite pavilions located there.
